Spring cleaning is an excellent way to freshen up the home. Even so, while you may give the house a deeper clean than usual, there are some hard-to-reach or forgotten spots that often get missed when spring cleaning.
6 Commonly Missed Spots When Spring Cleaning
Knowing about the following forgotten areas will allow you to perform a deeper and more effective spring cleaning.
Door Frames
High-up spots like door frames are easy to miss as you don’t regularly see that they are dirty. However, if you could see the dust accumulation here, you certainly would not neglect this area. Check just how dirty it is by wiping it with a damp cloth. If you cannot reach your door frames, use a stepladder or long-reach duster to clean them.
Toothbrush Holder
Most people are usually pretty good at cleaning their toothbrushes and replacing them regularly. However, we often overlook how clean the holder where we keep them is. As a result, toothbrush holders become dirty quickly. So, when cleaning your bathroom sink, remember to wash your toothbrush holder.
Clean the Washing Machine During Spring Cleaning
As washing machines are responsible for washing our clothes, we naturally assume they clean themselves. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Clean your washing machine every month.
Cleaning your washing machine involves more than wiping up spilled detergent. The rubber gasket around the lid can build up residue, so wipe that thoroughly. Then, clean the inside by running a hot water cycle using vinegar and baking soda.
TV Remote
When dusting your TV, don’t forget about the remote. Spring cleaning should involve cleaning small devices like these. The TV remote is picked up multiple times a day and passed from person to person, making it covered in germs.
Clean your remotes first with a multipurpose spray to remove any oil and debris. Then wipe it with a disinfectant to kill any lingering bacteria.
Curtains and Curtain Rails
While you may have a good washing schedule for your bedding, this is likely not the case with your curtains. However, both curtains and their rails attract a tremendous amount of dust. Give them a good spring cleaning to significantly improve the air quality in your home.
Many curtains are machine washable, whereas others require dry cleaning, so check the label first before putting them in the washer.
Spring Cleaning Mattresses
While mattresses are not the most accessible household item to clean, that doesn’t mean you should skip them when spring cleaning your bedrooms. A mattress protector reduces the amount of sweat, dead cells, dust mites, and pet hairs entering your mattress, but it cannot stop them all. An easy way to clean the mattress is to sprinkle your mattress with baking soda, leave for a few minutes, then vacuum it up.
